Pwinsider is reporting that Steve Maclin suffered an injury in the Impact World Title match against Alex Shelley at yesterday’s Down Under Tour (Night One).
Maclin was originally supposed to face Frankie Kazarian on Night Two, but he was pulled from the show due to the injury.
Maclin’s injury is reportedly legitimate and not a storyline angle. Impact Wrestling will assess his status moving forward, and he will reportedly receive further evaluation upon returning to the United States.
The report further suggests that the Down Under tour in Australia was hugely positive, and Impact’s first international event since 2018 was a major morale boost for everyone involved with the Anthem-owned promotion.
Besides Scott D’Amore and another production staff member working the tour, Impact hired a local production team that had reportedly never worked on professional wrestling programming before. This resulted in the production team learning a lot on the job, which explains why Night 2 had a superior feel. Most importantly, both shows were built from the ground up.
Impact Wrestling also participated in community outreach events at local schools during the tour. The local city government sponsored the trip, and it was said to have been well received.
Impact Wrestling is now aiming to set up similar overseas tours in the near future.
