Sonny Kiss departed All Elite Wrestling at the end of August as her contract with the promotion wasn’t extended.
Speaking on a recent edition of “Busted Open Radio,” Kiss opined on her release and revealed that the one thing she would have changed in regard to her AEW debut is the butt shake she did during her first spot. She said,
“If I knew that that was gonna be the response, I probably wouldn’t have done that as my first introduction to AEW. Because that was the first spot I did, that was with 10,000 people and everybody watching at home saw. So I probably wouldn’t have made that my first spot that the world has seen of Sonny Kiss. That’s the one thing I’ll take back from that. I would still do it, and I think I was supposed to have more offense with Brian Cage, but I think somehow things are going all over the place, and your stuff gets cut. It happens. I wouldn’t have had that as my first spot.”
She continued, “When you’re a person like me, you can’t do certain things like that because then the world just sees you as that. Even to this day, people say, ‘Oh, you’re just a gimmick.’ No. You have not been watching my progression if you think that I’m just a gimmick. I am so much more than that. I’m very athletic, I’m very talented, I’m very unique. I have so much more to offer than just having a great ass. That was up to me too, that was on me. I needed to show that more. I needed to show that I was more of a spicy, aggressive wrestler. Like I said, that was my introduction so that’s was what the podcasters and other people wanted to talk about because that’s what I showed them.”

Sonny Kiss Reflects on Her AEW Release and Debut Spot
Former All Elite Wrestling (AEW) star Sonny Kiss recently opened up about her departure from the promotion and shared her thoughts on her debut spot. Kiss, whose contract with AEW was not extended, spoke about the one thing she would have changed in hindsight.
During a recent interview on “Busted Open Radio,” Kiss expressed her regret over the butt shake she performed during her first spot in AEW. She admitted that if she had known it would receive such a polarizing response, she would have chosen a different way to introduce herself to the wrestling world.
Kiss explained, “That was the first spot I did, that was with 10,000 people and everybody watching at home saw. So I probably wouldn’t have made that my first spot that the world has seen of Sonny Kiss. That’s the one thing I’ll take back from that.”
The wrestler also mentioned that she was supposed to have more offense with Brian Cage, but due to unforeseen circumstances, her moves were cut. Kiss acknowledged that this is a common occurrence in the wrestling industry and accepted it as part of the job.
However, she expressed frustration over being labeled as just a gimmick due to her debut spot. Kiss emphasized that she is much more than that and has a lot to offer as an athlete and performer. She described herself as athletic, talented, and unique, with a wide range of skills beyond her physical appearance.
Kiss acknowledged her responsibility in showcasing her full potential and stated, “I needed to show that I was more of a spicy, aggressive wrestler. Like I said, that was my introduction so that’s what the podcasters and other people wanted to talk about because that’s what I showed them.”
Despite her release from AEW, Kiss remains determined to prove her worth and demonstrate her versatility as a wrestler. She urged fans and critics to pay attention to her progression and recognize her abilities beyond her initial gimmick.
As wrestling fans, it is important to remember that performers like Sonny Kiss are multi-dimensional individuals who deserve recognition for their skills and dedication to their craft. While a debut spot can leave a lasting impression, it should not define a wrestler’s entire career.
In conclusion, Sonny Kiss’s departure from AEW has given her an opportunity to reflect on her debut spot and the impact it had on her perception within the industry. She acknowledges the need to showcase her full range of talents and hopes to break free from being labeled solely as a gimmick. As she continues her wrestling journey, fans can expect to see a more aggressive and dynamic side of Sonny Kiss in the future.
