Professional wrestler Sol Ruca was forced to take a break from performing in the ring due to an ACL injury. She made her much-awaited comeback to WWE NXT TV during the Roadblock special in March.
During a recent episode of “Die Woche,” Ruca shared her experiences and journey to recovery. She said,
“The injury is definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through thus far, just within my athletic career and my career here. Thankfully, I survived college unscathed by any major injuries. However, losing my physical ability was a significant impact for me but it also gave me a chance to step back and really learn by observation, which works well for me being a visual person. Watching people, observing fans’ reactions to different moves and analyzing other people’s movesets enhanced my understanding greatly. The break provided me with an opportunity to focus on my comeback and how I want to be perceived when I return, rather than trying to do that while still being active.”
Ruca didn’t stop there; she further elaborated on reconceptualizing her training routine to avoid overexerting herself and risking future injuries.
“Following the injury, I have fine-tuned my training regimen slightly. I was pushing myself to extremes before and I resolve to be more enlightened in treating my body, especially with the frenzy of wrestling resuming. Now, I engage in independent gym sessions about three-to-four times in a week. Leg workouts are twice a week with a focus on hypertrophy over powerlifting, which I did pre-injury. Other activities include occasional yoga sessions and runs. It’s crucial not to adhere to an inflexible schedule, considering the hectic routine here at the P.C. and with wrestling. I prioritize my physical wellbeing, taking one day at a time, gauging my body’s needs and catering to them appropriately. I ensure to incorporate a lot of single-leg exercises since my injured leg is still slightly weaker, my goal remains to ensure it is in top-notch condition for as long as possible.”
