Welcome to a new eWrestlingNews Inquisitive Session!
In the latest NXT event, Roxanne Perez stepped into the ring against Kelani Jordan, in a match which could have inched her closer to the Women’s North American Championship ladder match at WWE Stand & Deliver. Perez has previously held the NXT Women’s Championship and the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship titles before they were discontinued. She aimed to be the first women to bag all three titles under NXT but unfortunately, she lost her qualifying match. However, there is still a possibility for her to win a last chance qualifier match, if it happens at all.
The question I pose to you today is this: “What is stopping WWE from moving Roxanne Perez to the main roster and why is she only seen in NXT?”
We await your views in the comments section below.
Here’s what I think…
A lot of fans seem perturbed about this situation. The answer isn’t complex. WWE currently has a surplus of Superstars and figured out they couldn’t accommodate everyone in WrestleMania 41. Thus, they prioritized Perez to remain in NXT for now.
Take WrestleMania XL for instance, it featured 13 matches (14 technically, but one was a mere 9 seconds, so we’ll not count that). Already announced for the forthcoming WrestleMania 41 are seven confirmed encounters, which sums up to a full night leaving only seven slots vacant.
Yet to be finalised are:
- Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre
- Intercontinental Championship match
- United States Championship match
- Women’s Intercontinental Championship match
- Women’s United States Championship match
- Women’s Tag Team Championship match
- WWE Tag Team Championship match
- World Tag Team Championship match
- The potential of a Rey Mysterio vs. Chad Gable / El Grande Americano match
- Jade Cargill vs. Naomi match
- A possible feud match: Andrade vs. Santos Escobar
- Uncertain matches featuring Jimmy Uso and others
The match count exceeds the available slots. The only way Perez could fit in is if she participates in the Women’s Intercontinental Championship match and that’s possible only by eliminating several other matches from the list.
I believe WWE plans to introduce Perez to Raw or SmackDown (likely Raw) in the 2025 WWE Draft, which should be occurring after WrestleMania.
She can then become part of a new feud and possibly defeat Lyra Valkyria for the title. Despite a 2-month break, fans will appreciate her early year performance and current champion status (or fighting for the title). It’s common for even top players to have seasonal breaks, like Sami Zayn for instance.
WWE’s flagship event, WrestleMania, does not accommodate a large number of women’s matches including Perez and other talent. Maxxine Dupri’s hint about pairing up with Natalya suggests a probable “multi-women tag team title match”. However, as an individual contender Perez is not connected with any tag-team activity as her only friend Cora Jade is no longer teamed up with her.
If the draft occurs and Perez is still in NXT, surely, there will be reasons to worry. However, presently I think it’s simply a matter of timing. Every superstar can’t always be in the spotlight; it’ll be Perez’s turn soon enough.
