While it’s a little passe right now, WWE used to rebrand every independent superstar that walked through their door.
Currently, Shotzi Blackheart is captivating audiences in NXT after catching their eye as a part of EVOLVE. In a new Q&A with Sports Illustrated, Shotzi opened up about any fear she had regarding WWE trying to rebrand her and what she would have liked her new WWE name to be.
“I did get told by a lot of people, ‘Oh man, you’re going to have to change your name, you’re going to have to change your gimmick. You won’t be able to do this or do that,’” she began. “So it was great to come here and learn that everyone was on-board with what I already had going on. I’d already done it on the indies, and it was working, so why mess with it?”
She continued, “I always thought I could come out and be Christine Fury, an ode to one of my favorite movies, Christine. She’s a demon car named Christine and she’s a Plymouth Fury,”
Tonight on NXT, Shotzi will get a shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship when she teams with Tegan Nox against Bayley and Sasha Banks.
