Shelton Benjamin Reacts To His AEW In-Ring Debut, Aron Stevens Talks Dusty Rhodes

Wrestling star Aron Stevens reflected on his relationship with deceased WWE legend Dusty Rhodes on the “Developmentally Speaking” podcast, discussing how pivotal Rhodes’ mentorship was in shaping his career.

They discuss the following points in the podcast:

The Mentorship of Dusty Rhodes: “Dusty was always there for me during the toughest times of my professional journey. I consider him a major force behind my career evolution. His guidance and support were unflinching, giving me the confidence to tread on in the world of wrestling,” said Stevens.

The Influence of Dusty Rhodes on his WWE Persona: “The iconic blue robe was his brainchild. I remember this one time when somebody from WWE, who had no business being in the position that they held, was making unpleasant remarks about my talent. Dusty was livid. He decided we needed to make a statement, and as a result, came the idea of the blue robe. The rest, as they say, is history,” he added.

In a different session on the “Gabby AF” podcast, Shelton Benjamin talks about his AEW debut match against Lio Rush on a recent Dynamite episode. He also touches upon the criticism he received for the prolonged length of the match, and the prospects of a potential match against Will Ospreay.

Highlights of this session include:

His interest in AEW: “The magnetic pull for me in AEW is Will Ospreay. I have been intrigued by his style and I am keen to know what our styles could create together,” said Benjamin.

On a potential match against Ricochet: “I had a few good matches with him in WWE. However, due to certain creative restrictions, those matches didn’t turn out as good as they could have been,” he added.

Lio Rush being his debut opponent in AEW: “His size doesn’t take away from the fact that he is a commendable opponent. His efforts in the ring are appreciable and reflect his professionalism, regardless of his stature,” Benjamin further explained.

In response to fan criticisms about the length of the match: “It could have been a one-man show with me dominating, but that wouldn’t have been as entertaining for the viewers. The longer duration allowed Lio to present his mettle against me, making it an engaging watch,” he concluded.
