WWE NXT Superstar Shawn Spears recently opened up on the “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” podcast. Spears talked about his decision to leave AEW, his return to WWE, and many more things. Below are some excerpts from the discussion:
Regarding his return to WWE under the Spears name, he said it has sentimental importance for him as it came from a baby book when he was just starting. And returning to WWE as Shawn Spears was a refreshing start. The fact that he had a say in this is something he is particularly grateful for.
Speaking about his departure from AEW, Spears explained it was because of a “personal want”, implying his desire to contribute more, both in front and behind the camera. He appreciated his time with AEW and outlined how it allowed him to learn about himself as a businessman. Tony Khan and several EVPs at AEW have his respect, and he felt privileged to work with top talents during his stint there.
As for his WWE return, Hunter was the first person he reached out to. He discussed how rewarding it is to contribute to the development of new talents while being mentored by Shawn Michaels.
About his “Stan” segment with Shawn Michaels at Cyber Sunday 2006, he amusingly revealed that Michaels himself gave him the new name ‘Stan’ because, according to Michaels, “Your name is not Shawn, my name’s Shawn.”
In related news, TNA wrestler Mike Santana also revealed his reasons for leaving AEW on the “3NT Wrestling” podcast. He affirmed his determination to be the world champion, citing it as a major reason for his return to TNA. Santana does not care who currently occupies the spot; his mission now is to be at the top and become the face of TNA in the future.
