Shawn Spears successfully ascended to the title of NXT North American Champion by defeating Tony D’Angelo in a thrilling match on the March 4, 2025 episode of WWE NXT.
In previous weeks, D’Angelo had been preoccupied with Ridge Holland, allowing Spears to meticulously establish what would later turn out to be a strategy. Assisted by compounder Izzi Dame, they attempted to penetrate The Family, with Dame building a shaky yet seemingly dependable bond with D’Angelo and the rest.
However, the alliance was merely a scheme to lull The Family into complacency. Dame’s unexpected betrayal led to D’Angelo falling out with The Family, thus providing Spears with a title opportunity – which he lucratively gained tonight.
One key factor was Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo’s misplaced interference, which has been a topic of dispute among The Family members. Lorenzo, inadvertently instigated by Spears, collided with D’Angelo causing him to fall off the ring apron onto a steel chair.

The mistake turned out to be D’Angelo’s downfall and Spears seized the opportunity for victory. D’Angelo attempted a spinebuster, only to exacerbate his already compromised back condition, resulting in Spears’ triumphant victory. This marked Spears’ initial title in WWE.
