Shawn Michaels has expressed his satisfaction with the introduction of the NXT Women’s North American Championship, stating it highlights the array of talent present in the gold brand.

The new title made its debut earlier this year, with Kelani Jordan emerging as the first champion after a six-woman ladder match at Battleground 2024.

During a recent episode of Booker T’s podcast, “Hall of Fame”, Michaels deliberated on the wealth of talent within the WWE NXT women’s roster. He shared,

“We aim to integrate as many of our talents into the show and provide as much representation as possible. I believe we do well in NXT by managing multiple storylines involving diverse talent, both men and women. If you’re comparing like for like, there’s a men’s championship and a women’s NXT championship.

“If there’s a men’s North American, it’s only sensible to introduce a women’s North American Championship. Influenced by what I humorously refer to as ‘Feminist Icon HBK’, it was a straightforward decision for us. Particularly considering our depth of talent. Not only is it fair, but from a depth perspective, we can certainly accommodate it. I don’t foresee this changing anytime soon.

“The depth within both of our rosters is immense; at times, the women outperform the men when looking at the overall depth. This is because over the years, women’s wrestling in WWE, and in the wider wrestling world, has seen substantial growth. As it rightfully should.”

Since becoming champion, Jordan has defended her title four times at various NXT events, most recently retaining against Solo Ruca at WWE NXT: Heatwave.

Additionally, this week, Michaels reflected on his SummerSlam 1995 ladder match against Razor Ramon. You can listen to what he had to say by clicking here.
