In the days following his WWE return, CM Punk has rapidly increased his presence in NXT, even stepping into the role of special guest referee for an NXT World Championship match between Ethan Page and Trick Williams. Not content with just participating in the match, Punk also organized a lively pizza party for the attendees at Allstate Arena in his home city, Chicago, IL.

CM Punk’s frequent visits to the WWE Performance Center and his mentoring activity for many rising stars like Cora Jade and Roxanne Perez suggest his potential long-term plans. It seems that CM Punk envisages his future as a mentor and guide after his own wrestling career comes to a close.

In a recent interaction with The Ringer, Shawn Michaels, Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative, discussed this possibility. Michaels openly endorsed the idea that Punk might succeed him in his current role when he, known universally as The Heartbreak Kid, decides it’s time to retire. He stated:

“Of course. If that’s what he wants to do, then absolutely. And I will add, whether it’s CM Punk or anyone else with a similar passion — I can completely relate because I’ve been in the same position. This place is captivating… the environment here at NXT, the Performance Center, and here in Orlando is unrivalled in the entire industry. That’s why everyone ends up here, it reminds them of the early days when it was all about trying to make an impact, experiencing the thrill of being in the ring, and looking forward to the future.

“I never thought that a performer like me, who loves being centre stage and craves attention, would derive so much pleasure from nurturing the upcoming stars of WWE. CM Punk is clearly someone who seems to enjoy this role as well. So, I will maintain what I have said on numerous occasions: Once he is ready to transition after his wrestling career, I will stand by him every step of the way and contribute in any way possible.”
