Shawn Michaels Opens Up About What Attracts Him To The NXT UK Brand
Shawn Michaels is considered by many to be the greatest in-ring performer in WWE history. Now, alongside his co-D-Generation X founding member Triple H, HBK is applying everything he can to the betterment of the NXT brand. Especially for NXT UK.
Speaking with Inside The Ropes, Shawn Michaels talked about what draws him to the UK brand, to the UK style of wrestling, and why he feels so fortunate to still be involved with WWE all these years later.
“I like that style. Again, it’s very different. It’s not something that we get to see on a regular basis in our country,” Michaels began. “You’re talking about starting something new and original here in the UK. Doing it with your buddy, doing a brand that you and certainly a company that I’ve been involved with since I was 23 years old. Then, of course, the style and this place. I mean you guys have been so faithful and loyal to the WWE for as long as I can remember. I can remember coming over here in 1991 and feeling like a rockstar and it was just phenomenal and fast forward all these years later and they’re still rabid out there and that never gets old. Not to me anyway.”

Continuing on, Shawn Michaels would say that he only has one gift in this life and he feels so fortunate being able to share that with young talents and getting to work alongside his best friend in the process.
“We don’t do the performing anymore but there is nothing– we’ve talked about it on a regular basis. It’s hard to beat seeing, especially these local guys who are now getting to enjoy success on a much bigger level, coming back and seeing that look on their face. It’s just phenomenal,” Shawn said. “That’s infectious and that’s synonymous about the whole NXT and Performance Center vibe and culture that from the first time I walked in there, you feel– it’s a palpable feeling and you think to yourself, ‘gosh, this is all the stuff that’s fantastic about the wrestling business and about the WWE. I’ve got one gift that I was given and it’s to do this. So why not? And getting to do it with your best friend, it’s hard to beat.”
NXT UK can be seen every Thursday on WWE Network.
