Shannon Spruill, aka Daffney, Passes Away At Age 46

Shannon Spruill, known for her work in professional wrestling as “Daffney,” passed away on Wednesday night at the age of 46.

Spruill’s death was confirmed by SHIMMER Wrestling on behalf of an announcement made by her family.

“We are very sad to have to announce the passing of Shannon Spruill aka Daffney Unger @screamqueendaff. We are posting this at the request of her family. Please respect their privacy at this trying time. I will miss you my logical sister from another mister.”

Spruill was seen on Instagram Live on Wednesday night (September 1) where she was exhibiting some concerning behavior during a live stream. Fans and her friends were concerned that she was in danger of harming herself and called police to go and help her.

Daffney gained mainstream attention for her work in WCW as an ally of Crowbar and David Flair. She later worked for TNA Wrestling and SHIMMER, among other promotions. Daffney retired from wrestling due to an injury sustained in a TNA ring, she later settled a lawsuit with the company in relation to her injuries.

In addition to working as Daffney, Spruill had a storyline that saw her portraying “The Governor,” a spoof on Sarah Palin during her run in TNA.
