The streaming giant, Netflix, is currently airing a docuseries about Vince McMahon, famously known as Mr. McMahon. In the series, Shane McMahon, his son, discussed his decision to leave WWE in October of 2009. Vince McMahon also offered his perspective on Shane’s departure.
Here’s a glimpse of the fascinating conversation revealed in the docuseries:
Shane, discussing his difficult choice to leave WWE said, “It was an extremely tough decision to step away from the only thing that I was passionate about, the only business I ever wanted to be a part of my whole life. But at that time, my father was holding the reins firmly, and I felt it was the right time for me to explore new ventures.”
Vince shared his insight on why Shane decided to depart: “Shane’s departure came from a desire to step into leadership, thinking it was time for me to step down. Shane brought immense value to the table, but at the end of the day, it was my company, not his. Family business dynamics can be so tricky, and sometimes it felt like we had conflicting views on everything, leading to us drifting apart.”
Shane, reflecting on the differences in vision with his father, added, “We just couldn’t agree on various aspects. But he’s the one in charge. When he decides we’re turning something blue, that’s what happens. I was at a point where I thought, ‘I can either watch us crumble or I should take a step back.’ He’s my father; I wouldn’t risk jeopardizing our relationship. Therefore, I chose to step back. I expressed my gratitude, hugged him, and that was all.”
