Matt Riddle was released by WWE last week alongside several other main roster and NXT stars to be let go after the company’s merger with TKO.
Riddle originally signed with WWE back in 2018 after a run in the UFC before getting into wrestling.
Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that several wrestling and MMA promotions are interested in Riddle. He wrote,
“Since the word last week of his being let go, there has been interest by a number of companies in both pro wrestling and MMA. Most pro wrestling companies of any size immediately expressed interest, and in MMA, both PFL and Bare Knuckle Fighting had expressed interest due to his name value from WWE and the fact he was a decent MMA fighter. Riddle hasn’t fought in nine years and is 37, and real fighting is not a sport it would be wise to go back into unless it’s a big money offer. We’ve also seen with C.M. Punk that getting exposed in real fighting does not hurt someone when returning to pro wrestling as fans see them as different worlds.”

Matt Riddle, a former WWE superstar, was recently released by the company after their merger with TKO. Riddle, who originally signed with WWE in 2018 after a successful career in the UFC, is now attracting interest from various wrestling and MMA promotions.
According to Dave Meltzer’s report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, several pro wrestling companies and MMA promotions have expressed interest in Riddle. This comes as no surprise considering his name value from his time in WWE and his background as a skilled MMA fighter.
In the world of pro wrestling, Riddle’s release has caught the attention of many companies, both big and small. This is because Riddle’s in-ring abilities and charismatic persona make him a valuable asset to any promotion. His experience in WWE has also given him exposure to a wide audience, making him a recognizable face in the industry.
On the MMA front, both the Professional Fighters League (PFL) and Bare Knuckle Fighting have shown interest in Riddle. Despite not having fought in nine years and being 37 years old, Riddle’s past success in MMA makes him an intriguing prospect for these organizations. However, Meltzer points out that returning to real fighting may not be wise unless there is a significant financial offer involved.
The case of C.M. Punk serves as an example of how transitioning from real fighting to pro wrestling can be successful. Punk, a former UFC fighter, returned to the world of pro wrestling without any negative impact on his popularity among fans. This suggests that fans see real fighting and pro wrestling as separate entities and are willing to embrace athletes who excel in both.
As fans eagerly await Riddle’s next move, it is clear that he has options in both the wrestling and MMA industries. Whether he chooses to continue his career in pro wrestling or make a comeback to the world of MMA, Riddle’s name value and skill set make him an attractive prospect for any promotion.
