Scott Steiner Dishes On WCW – ‘The Older Guys Kept The Younger Guys Down’

In a recent episode of the “Insight” podcast, WWE Hall of Fame inductee, Scott Steiner, delved into the conception of his alter ego, Big Poppa Pump, in 1998.

Here are some key points, higlighted from the podcast:

Steiner speaks on Becoming Big Poppa Pump: “The commencement was like a dual personality scenario. Post college, I was a cheerful youngster. However, time in the wrestling ring changes things. After dealing with obstacles, oppressive politics and unfair treatment, I was at my boiling point. That led to the birth of Big Poppa Pump; an angry and furious character. My frustration was quite visible in my interviews, I was done tolerating the unfairness in professional wrestling, reflecting particularly upon incidents behind the curtains. The actual scenario was hard to comprehend.”

About his understanding of WCW’s backstage politics: “Fortunately, there were some well-wishers who kept me updated about the happenings most of the time, while in some instances I was left in the dark. It was rampant back then how the older fellows were suppressing the younger talent.”
