Scott D’Amore On This Month’s WWE Cuts: There’s Definitely Some Talent I Could See Gracing An IMPACT Ring

Scott D’Amore says talent releases are an unfortunate part of the wrestling business, but he could see IMPACT’s roster benefitting from WWE loss just like they did last year.
D’Amore was a guest on Sitting Ringside with David Penzer this week, and before getting into the Rebellion PPV match card, took a few moments to discuss last Thursday’s WWE talent releases. Penzer noted that “one of those billionaires just gave you another opportunity” to create some buzz similar to the tone going into last year’s Slammiversary event. D’Amore responded by saying he knows it’s an unfortunate situation for the talent themselves, but there’s definitely some talent he could see ended up in IMPACT just like last year.
“Well, I mean the one thing is—I’m kind of curious about the fact that people seem to be shocked that this happened. If you look at it historically, this is exactly what happens. They do WrestleMania, they get through that and then they make some adjustments to their talent roster. But certainly, as I was sitting and working away from my patio table, since we’re all in a pretty much ‘work at home situation’ these days in this world, but my phone started lighting up I looked some up,” D’Amore noted, “and there is definitely some talent that I could see gracing an IMPACT Wrestling ring.”
“It’s always unfortunate when any talent gets let go, that’s one of the unfortunate sides of the business, it’s part of any business. To me—like so many of the people did last year,” D’Amore noted, “it’s a great opportunity for these people to take this setback and turn it into something cool and something that can propel them forward. So, I think it’ll be an interesting time over the next 90 days and we’ll see where everyone lands in July.”
WWE released ten wrestlers on Thursday, April 15, including Samoa Joe, Chelsea Green and The IIconics. Last year (also on April 15), WWE released dozens of on-air talent and other employees, leading to the IMPACT return of Eric Young and debuts for the Good Brothers, Heath and Deonna Purrazzo.
