Santos Escobar Retains Cruiserweight Title Against Gran Metalik

Gran Metalik confronted Santos Escobar during last week’s episode of NXT, resulting in the superstar getting a match for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. During the match – which took place at NXT’s New Year’s Evil – it was all Escobar, who managed to come out on top and retain his title in grand fashion.
In an incredibly tight match between the two superstars, Escobar and Metalik went at it right from the start, with Metalik seemingly taking control early on. However, late in the match Escobar performed a low blow for the circumstances, grabbing at Metalik’s mask and trying to rip it off. As this was happening, Legado del Fantasma and Lince Dorado – who were at ringside for both superstars – began fighting, with Dorado landing a huge dive off the steps onto Mendoza and Wilde just as they began to advance towards Metalik.
With chaos erupting outside of the ring, Metalik was pulled off of the top ropes by Escobar, and after a back and forth between the two, Escobar hit the Phantom Driver onto Metalik for the win.
