During a recent visit to the podcast “Insight with Chris Van Vliet,” professional wrestler Samoa Joe touched upon the subject of his impending retirement, among other things.

Below are some of the key moments from the podcast:

Regarding his thoughts on retirement, Samoa Joe stated, “I do ponder over it often. It seems to be closer than anticipated, which I’m fine with. I’ve noticed that many people from my generation, given the chance, we’ve strived to save up and certainly do not want to overstay our welcome. We have witnessed some who may have done that in their careers. I certainly do not want to be that person.”

When asked about a specific date for his retirement, he replied, “I don’t have an exact date, it mostly relies on when my contract expires. Evaluating my options at that time is my plan. I dislike uttering the word retirement, considering the number of pro wrestling retirements that don’t end up happening. So, I will continue for some more time, but I think the conclusion is likely nearer than the signing of a new contract.”

Commenting on the chaos caused by the delay of WrestleMania 37 due to rain, Samoa Joe shared, “It was incredibly chaotic. The scariest part, which might not be known to many, was the big water bubble that filled up over our heads, right above the commentary table and the first three rows. It caused us to chuckle, but it was also terrifying because if that burst, we’d be drenched. So, we braced ourselves for that possible waterfall, trying to fill time and avoid any silence until the show could officially begin. It certainly was a wild ride.”
