Sammy Guevara was all set to square off in the squared circle on Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager At Sea, but a simple injury stifled The Spanish God’s progress in doing so.
Guevara sat down with Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer while all three were on the cruise, and Sammy shared the details of unexpected incident that caused him to be sidelined for the week’s wrestling festivities.
“Going in the back and taking off my wrestling shoe this past Wednesday, it was very, very tight. It was in a knot and I couldn’t get it out of the knot so I just kind of forced it off and something inside of my ankle just like pulled it a little bit. And then I was like, ‘Ow, that hurt a little bit,’ but then no problem. Couple days later, I feel it a little bit more, next day I feel a little bit more, then day of the cruise I wake up in the hotel and I’m like, ‘Oh, I can’t walk on it.’ It’s all swollen and I’m limping around and of course, it’s like the day I’m supposed to wrestle like almost every day.”
“So anybody out there, untie your shoes! Don’t be lazy and try to like force them off.”
Alvarez compliments Guevara on being such a great “douche bag” and uses Baron Corbin as the example of a heel not having that type of heat in which Sammy gets. Sammy, Dave and Bryan try to break down why that is.
“I think it’s not only how I look, but I think it’s also my in-ring, you know? I think I’m exciting to watch, whether you like me or hate me, I do a lot of cool stuff. You know, Baron Corbin, I don’t know…
ALVAREZ: “He does less cool stuff.”
GUEVARA: “Yeah, let’s put it nicely. I’ve never seen a match that was like, what’s the word? Like….”
MELTZER: Entertained by?
GUEVARA: “You know, it didn’t impress me. You know? I gotta see something, it’s like, something I wouldn’t expect. And so I haven’t seen that, but I feel like with me, it’s like, you don’t know what you’re going to get. I’ll go to the top rope, am I gonna do something cool or am I gonna slap someone in the face? You don’t know.”
When asked to elaborate why his look makes him so hateable, Sammy gave a pretty simple answer.
“I look gooood, you know? I’m just throwing it out there: spoiler. I look good, I have a unique hair style. A lot of people are hating on it, but they’re talking about so screw it.”
