Wrestling journalist Ariel Helwani recently caught up with Sami Zayn for an exclusive interview. The Honorary Uce discussed his widely acclaimed saga with The Bloodline, how it came about, possibly dethroning Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, and more.
Check out some of the highlights below:
On Jay Briscoe’s untimely passing: “I won’t get to see him again and I won’t get to wrestle him again because there’s always that thing of like, I’ll see you when I see you. Eventually, we all end up back together. But I’ll never wrestle him again. That really sucks, that hurts. When I think about it that way, that’s the closest thing to understanding the reality of the situation. It’s not when I say I’ll never see him again… It’s when I really say I’ll never get in the ring with him again.”
On how his story with The Bloodline began: “Coincidentally, it was an interview that Roman did with you that kind of spawned it all off. Because you had asked him if there was anyone he particularly wanted to work with, and he mentioned my name, which I took as a huge compliment. So one time we were talking, I was like ‘Man, I had this idea. It would be so fun to do some onscreen stuff [together].’ Some of it was his idea, too, like where it could go. But basically, it wasn’t to be a full-fledged member of The Bloodline or anything like that.”
On how The Bloodline saga kicked into next gear: “That was sort of the inception. Where I thought it could go was eventually, you get close and whatever, and it could all lead to a turn, and what a way that would be to turn. So I kind of had this idea of how it would go, I just didn’t think it would actually happen. In fact, even when the Bloodline stuff started, about two months in, I was like ‘OK, I don’t think this is going anywhere. I think maybe it’s time to go in a different direction.’ Stars just kind of align, hey, we’re finally on screen together! And there’s some good chemistry and the crowd there obviously loves me, so that heightened everything, and that really gave it a whole new life.”
On his expectations from the story: “It still exceeded my expectations, and I still didn’t think it would actually happen, so a lot — a lot!—has gone on.”

Speaking of Jimmy Fallon, Roman Reigns recently appeared on The Tonight Show, where he discussed The Rock, Cody Rhodes and also the riveting story involving Sami Zayn.
Here’s what the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion had to say:
“Well, that’s the beauty of it, now, is we’ve got so much stuff going on. Right now we got Sami Zayn that’s in the mix and within my Bloodline we’ve been doing some beautiful TV over the past six months.”
