In a recent chat with The Wrestling Classic, wrestler Sabu offered insights into his stint in WWE and his disagreements with Vince McMahon over promos. Here are some key points from the discussion:
Concerning Vince McMahon’s insistence on his verbal participation in WWE, Sabo said: “Indeed, the creative team wanted me to use dialogues. I thought I could persuade them to let me stay mute. But that didn’t pan out. Vince said, ‘You’ll be one of my primary faces, but you have to speak.’ So, I replied, ‘What if I choose to remain silent?’ He responded, ‘You must speak, present your thoughts, show the audience that you’re human.’ Then I proposed, ‘Could I get a manager instead?’ He denied, stating ‘Umaga’s already on that track.’ Then I respond, ‘Damn, I’ve been doing that even before Umaga was born.’”
Regarding Stephanie McMahon providing him with a scripted promo, Sabu recounted: “When Stephanie handed me the script, I couldn’t hold back my laughter. I said, ‘You’ve got to be kidding. You genuinely expect me to recite these lines? The words are just too complex for me to even get through.’ So instead, I proposed, ‘Or we could go with this; I rip the script like so, then exit, before briefly returning.’ She did not consent, urging, ‘Give it another shot’, and I retorted, ’I’ll be back shortly’. But I never returned, and consequently they dismissed me.”
The interview also includes topics such as Sabu’s last match, AEW, The Raw Sign, throwing Chairs, other fellow wrestlers and more, which you can watch in the embedded video.
