ECW legend Sabu recently appeared on the “Title Match Network” podcast to discuss a variety of topics, including his table spot at AEW Double or Nothing 2023 and why he wasn’t happy with it. He said,

“To tell you the truth, I was unhappy with it because it wasn’t the spot I wanted to do. I wanted the guys to be head-to-head, feet out laying across the table, but they were laying on top of each other. I wanted to do a leg drop to both of them through the table. When I got up there, they’re laying on top of each other. I said, ‘F**k.’ If I do a leg drop, I’ll probably flip over on them and flip off.”

He continued, “So, I just did a splash. It got over, but I wasn’t happy with it. My manger, lawyer, agent, Josh, just said, ‘Do a splash’ before I went out there. I said, ‘No, a splash is too easy,’ and I ended up doing a splash [laughs]. I was like, ‘I have to do something better than that, but they were set up wrong.”

Sabu, the legendary wrestler from Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), recently shared his thoughts on a table spot he performed at AEW Double or Nothing 2023. In an interview on the “Title Match Network” podcast, Sabu expressed his dissatisfaction with the spot and explained why it didn’t meet his expectations.

Sabu revealed that he had envisioned a different table spot for the match. He wanted the two wrestlers involved to be lying head-to-head with their feet outstretched across the table. His plan was to execute a leg drop on both of them, breaking the table in the process. However, when he climbed up to the top rope, he realized that the wrestlers were positioned differently than he had anticipated.

Disappointed with the setup, Sabu admitted that he was unsure about performing a leg drop in that situation. He feared that he might accidentally flip over and potentially harm the other wrestlers. As a result, he decided to go with a splash instead. Although the move was well-received by the audience, Sabu expressed his dissatisfaction with it, feeling that he could have done something more impressive if the setup had been correct.

Sabu also mentioned that his manager, lawyer, and agent, Josh, had suggested he perform a splash before going out for the match. However, Sabu initially rejected the idea, considering it too easy. Ultimately, he ended up doing the splash as advised but felt that he needed to deliver something better.

The interview with Sabu provides insight into the behind-the-scenes challenges and frustrations that wrestlers may face during live events. It highlights the importance of proper planning and coordination to ensure that performers can execute their desired moves effectively and safely.
