Ever since Roman Reigns returned to WWE at last year’s SummerSlam pay-per-view, he has been arguably the best part of WWE programming ever since. But why do Reigns’ storylines stand out compared to everything else on RAW or SmackDown? It appears we now have our answer.

Roman Reigns was recently a guest on the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast with Chris “Mad Dog” Russo to discuss all things WWE. When the subject of the “missionary position” promo came up, Reigns revealed that WWE no longer scripts his promos.

“You know, there was a portion of my career where I’d either read a script, or I would try to adjust the script as much as possible,” Roman Reigns said. “But, for a while now, especially since I come back from my little leave during the beginning of the pandemic since SummerSlam, I’m not scripted. I say what I want to. I say what I feel. If it comes out of my mouth, it’s my verbiage, I come up with it, I deliver it, and that’s why it’s been the way it’s been because it’s mine.”

Giving Roman Reigns creative freedom on the microphone since returning to WWE has clearly benefited The Tribal Cheif. This should be a message to Vince McMahon and the entire creative team that there is a better way to handle promos in the company.

Roman Reigns will defend the WWE Universal Championship against John Cena at WWE SummerSlam on August 21.
