Roderick Strong made his AEW debut on the April 26th episode of Dynamite and saved Adam Cole from an attack by The Jericho Appreciation Society.
According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Strong’s WWE contract expired in November. However, his colleagues weren’t aware of that, as he was still listed on WWE.com’s roster on the night he made his AEW debut.
Strong reportedly tried giving notice before his contract expired but was turned down.
The injury angle on WWE NXT was originally believed to be a way to write him off due to injury.
However, instead, the angle was meant to be his farewell from NXT as WWE was aware that Strong wouldn’t be signing a new contract.
It is to be noted that Strong had been hurt which is why he didn’t debut for AEW until last week. AEW had been planning to bring him in for some time, just after Adam Cole made his return to TV.
Almost nobody in WWE knew about Strong’s departure and were shocked to see him appear on Dynamite.
Strong’s AEW debut was kept a secret and he was hidden backstage before he appeared on camera.
