On a recent episode of the “1 Of A Kind” podcast, wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer, Rob Van Dam, shared a story about a time he knocked himself out during a TNA match against Kenny Kingston.

In this particular match, Van Dam described his somewhat impulsive decision to attempt a wrestling move that he hadn’t performed in about a decade – the 450-degree flip from the top rope, also known as the five star frog splash. “Every now and then, I like to bring out an old move, just to see if I’ve still got it,” he explained. But in this instance, his decision didn’t turn out so well. After launching himself into the flip, he landed face-first on the mat, resulting in a knockout. He even temporarily lost his memory of the match.

Recalling the aftermath, Van Dam said, “I was out cold, yet I still somehow managed to get up. It took me some time before I could hold onto a thought without forgetting it. I remember walking past Dixie Carter later and when she asked how I was doing, I told her I was fine but couldn’t remember the match. Apparently, I’d told her the exact same thing just minutes ago without realizing it. This all came from my rare decision to perform a 450 frog splash and misjudging the timing a bit. He moved, and I landed hard. Suddenly, my legs felt like spaghetti.”

In the same podcast episode, Van Dam also talked about how he owns his iconic monikers. When he left WWE in 2007, certain copyright expirations allowed him to retain rights to some of his famous stage names, which include ‘The Whole F’n Show’ and ‘Mr. Monday Night’. WWE, on the other hand, holds the rights to ‘Mr. Tuesday Night’. Nevertheless, Van Dam jokingly suggested the possibility of a ‘Mr. Thursday Night’ moniker during the time SmackDown was aired.
