At the 2024 WWE Money In The Bank pay-per-view event, John Cena made an unexpected entrance to share his impending retirement from professional wrestling, scheduled for 2025. Cena disclosed plans to participate in an estimated 30 to 40 matches in the subsequent year as part of his farewell events.
In a recent episode of his podcast “1 Of A Kind”, Rob Van Dam discussed Cena’s approaching retirement tour, their shared history in WWE, and more. You can see selected snippets from the podcast below:
On the potential for a rematch with John Cena, Van Dam says, “I hope they bring me in for a rematch with Cena, that’d be super cool. I don’t know if they know, but I know I could still do that same match. Absolutely.”
Concerning his past collaborations with Cena, Van Dam shares, “I mean, John is incredibly strong…He was adept at connecting with the crowd, he knew exactly when to signal for a reaction. Working with him was dynamic, as he could make on-the-spot decisions based on the crowd’s reaction.”
Regarding Cena’s wrestling style, Van Dam notes, “The first time, when we were leading up to that first time, he put that crossface on me…It felt like my neck was about to snap. I think Sabu felt the same way when he was in that position with Cena.”
