In a recent episode of “1 Of A Kind” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam clarified the common misconception regarding his relationship with WWE, particularly his issues with Triple H. He mentioned that it was not due to personal animosity that his stint with WWE ended, but largely down to decisions relating to the business aspect of the company.
Rob Van Dam detailed his perceived difficulties about his prospective WWE return, stating it was a mix of personal and business issues that might be hampering his return. He stated, “While I believe fans see a financial opportunity in me, I’m unsure if the decision makers at WWE see me that way. Although many consider me to be amongst the highest-regarded wrestlers, I lack evidence that I would be considered a sound investment for the company in those in charge.”
He further discussed the need for fans to understand the difference between personal and business relationships in WWE. Van Dam stressed that it’s not just about personal feelings, but also about whether the higher-ups consider him a valuable asset or not.
On a separate note, Van Dam also remarked on his reluctance to initiate conversation about getting pitched ideas. He shared, “In articles, they point out that I don’t beg or show desperation. Perhaps that’s why I’m not perceived as a great investment as I don’t seem too eager. Others have blamed a certain individual for their lack of opportunity in WWE, citing jealousy. They said the same about me. I’ve been told that at the start of my WWE career, there were plans to utilize me in WrestleMania, potentially against The Undertaker. However, someone said ‘he’s not popular enough’.”
He concluded by emphasizing that every business decision, including this one, should be viewed from a business perspective and not taken personally.
This year, Rob Van Dam has wrestled for AEW twice. His views can be found in a recent episode of his podcast, “1 Of A Kind”.
