WWE’s Senior VP of Live Events ‘Road Dogg’ Jesse James has recalled his time with TNA/Impact Wrestling, and the spotlight given to the company’s X-Division.
During his “Oh You Didn’t Know podcast,” James joked that names like Samoa Joe & AJ Styles have done ‘okay’ before speaking about the X-Division. He said,
“To me, it was the X-Division show. It gave a lot of those smaller guys who could work really good a platform on television. There are a lot of guys who are still in the game because they’re good at it. Christopher Daniels, Dusty Rhodes was there for a minute…everybody came and went through there.”
James added that the X-Division helped carry on the legacy of WCW’s Cruiserweight division at a time when WWE wasn’t interested in pushing smaller guys.

WWE’s Senior VP of Live Events, ‘Road Dogg’ Jesse James, recently reflected on his time with TNA/Impact Wrestling and the significance of the company’s X-Division. In his podcast, “Oh You Didn’t Know,” James humorously acknowledged the success of wrestlers like Samoa Joe and AJ Styles before delving into the impact of the X-Division.
According to James, the X-Division provided a platform for smaller wrestlers who possessed exceptional in-ring skills. It showcased their abilities on television and allowed them to shine. He mentioned notable names such as Christopher Daniels and Dusty Rhodes, emphasizing that many wrestlers passed through TNA/Impact Wrestling during their careers.
Furthermore, James highlighted the X-Division’s role in carrying on the legacy of WCW’s Cruiserweight division. At a time when WWE was not particularly interested in pushing smaller wrestlers, the X-Division stepped in to fill the void. It provided an opportunity for these talented individuals to showcase their skills and make a name for themselves in the industry.
The X-Division’s focus on high-flying, fast-paced action resonated with fans who appreciated the athleticism and excitement it brought to the wrestling world. It became a popular attraction within TNA/Impact Wrestling and helped establish the company as a viable alternative to WWE.
In addition to its impact on individual wrestlers, the X-Division also played a crucial role in shaping the landscape of professional wrestling. It demonstrated that smaller wrestlers could captivate audiences and deliver thrilling matches, challenging the notion that size was the sole determinant of success in the industry.
Today, the X-Division continues to be an integral part of TNA/Impact Wrestling’s identity. It serves as a platform for emerging talent and a reminder of the division’s rich history. The X-Division Championship remains one of the most prestigious titles in the company, symbolizing excellence in high-flying, innovative wrestling.
As wrestling fans, we can appreciate the contributions of the X-Division and the opportunities it has provided for talented wrestlers throughout the years. It has not only entertained us but also challenged conventional norms and expanded the possibilities within the industry.
