In a recent episode of his podcast named “Off The Top,” wrestling legend Rikishi voiced his opinion on the recent WWE match. According to him, the event that saw Bron Breakker winning against his son Jey Uso and securing the WWE Intercontinental Title happened prematurely.
Highlights from the podcast can be viewed below:
Regarding the defeat: “It happened too quickly. If I was in charge and taking a business perspective, I would say that Jey had rightfully acquired his position with the belt. We have it now with this young man who is vastly popular. With this ‘YEET’ character, his notoriety and merchandising are on the rise. He may very well have surpassed [Roman Reigns] in that aspect, boasting merchandise for each city he visits. In terms of marketing, it would be more beneficial to retain him in this position. Not just because he’s my son. From a promoter’s point of view, it’s about the business. We aim to find suitable and popular characters and then flesh out their story. If I were in charge, I would have taken more time to build up the ‘YEET’ character. The character has been in the tag team line for 17 years and won many fans after his single run.”
On not giving fans a chance to support him: “Bron has a notable background, but pushing him into the limelight too soon can deter fans from investing in him. There’s a need for the audience to witness his struggles and growth, and just when they believe he deserves a chance. Like in the past, they rushed individuals – John Cena was one such victim – into positions where they faced inevitable backlash despite being inherently good. This happened with Jey. From a business perspective, the belt was probably taken from him too soon. However, that’s just my viewpoint, and now Bron holds the belt. The next question is, how do we move forward with Bron? For me, it’s all about business – the characters, their marketability, their revenue potential.”
