Professional wrestler Ricochet recently had a conversation with Sports Illustrated about topics such as his decision to transition from WWE to AEW, his feelings regarding being labeled an AEW wrestler, and other subjects.

Here are some highlights from the interview:

When asked if he finds it strange to be referred as an AEW wrestler, he replied, “No, it doesn’t feel weird at all. It likely doesn’t because AEW already feels like home. I’ve been familiar with most of the roster for the majority of my career, so that has a lot to contribute.”

Regarding experiencing nerves before his AEW debut, he reminisced, “The last time I was nervous was during a match with Rey Mysterio in Lucha Underground. For this match, there was excitement, more than nervousness. Even though I’ve never been in AEW and had been inactive for a while, I was ready to jump in with a touch of anticipation.”

Speaking about his reasons to leave WWE for AEW, Ricochet shared, “The paramount reason is my desire to change and have fun again, like the old times. I had the maximum fun when traveling and having bouts with my fellow wrestlers. It’s not that my journey with WWE was wholly unpleasant. I had enjoyable moments in my entire career, wherever I went. But the highest fun quotient was with AEW, where I got to create the art that I love.”

Discussing how difficult a decision it was for him to switch, he confessed, “Indeed, it was a major decision and difficult at some levels since WWE had been my home for almost six years. Yet, it was easy at times since I am always willing for a change. Considering the direction AEW is headed, I felt that progressive change is what I need, and being a part of it is truly exciting.”
