During his promo, he boldly declared his ambitions to overthrow wrestling’s status quo and to cause fans to forget legendary wrestler, Ric Flair. This, Cena said, would happen when he clinches his 17th World Championship.
In reaction to Cena’s bold claims, Ric Flair spoke with TMZ Sports, confirming his appearance at the forthcoming WWE Wrestlemania 41. In response to Cena’s threat, Flair resolutely stated, “I’m just glad I’m alive after the life I’ve led to be here to hear it. I got news for John. They’ve been trying to get rid of the ‘Woo’ for 50 years. The ‘Woo’ isn’t going away, and neither is Ric Flair, and the odds of him winning a seventeenth world title are astronomical.”
The legendary Nature Boy expressed his admiration for Cena’s transformation into a heel character and applauded WWE for this strategic decision. Asked about his plans for WrestleMania 41, the charismatic wrestler replied, “Hell yeah! I’m going to the pool party with you.”
Meanwhile, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray also shared his thoughts about Cena mentioning Flair during his RAW promo on the latest episode of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast. He expressed his curiosity saying, “I found it interesting that he went out of his way to mention Ric Flair. Like, everybody knows. He could’ve just said 17-time World Champion. He didn’t have to mention Flair’s name, but he did. And I’m wondering why.”
In the upcoming WWE WrestleMania 41 held in Las Vegas next month, Cena is set to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
