Wrestling legend and inductee in the WWE Hall of Fame, Kurt Angle, inked his contract with the WWE back in 1998 and made his small screen debut about a year later.
During an episode of “Busted Open Radio” show recently, WWE superstar Ric Flair disclosed he persuaded Angle not to join WCW, making him get in touch with Vince McMahon.
Flair recalled, “We were at a fitness center in Nashville, Tennessee. Kurt and I had met a few times before. He approached me and stated, ‘I am considering diving into wrestling. What’s your advice? How about me signing up with WCW?’ In response, I told him, ‘If I were in your shoes right now… Hang on a second.’ I went to the changing room, grabbed my phone, dialed up Vince and put him on the line with Kurt. During the next two weeks, Kurt found himself training with Dory Funk Jr. WCW could have severely mishandled… Nobody has the capacity to ruin Kurt Angle, yet they would have failed to properly use his prodigious talent. When he was on top health-wise, Kurt was simply one of the best. He is a unique breed of an athlete and just a wonderful human being.”
