Rey Mysterio, a WWE Hall of Famer, recently appeared on the “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” podcast. Throughout the course of the interview, Mysterio discussed a plethora of subjects including his future retirement, his career and wrestling journey, and his decision not to transition to WWE immediately after the closure of WCW.
Here are some noteworthy highlights from this podcast discussion:
When asked about his plans for retiring from wrestling, Mysterio confessed that he hasn’t given much thought to it until his wife brings up the topic. He further stated that he is unsure of how long he wants to continue wrestling. He relies on his body’s signals and mindset to decide, particularly as he is still feeling physically well. He, however, admitted his concern about his age and how his body might not feel the same in future years.
Speaking about his decision not to transition to WWE immediately after WCW was discontinued, Mysterio shared that he was earning enough in WCW at that time. Moreover, his contract hadn’t expired when the company got acquired. He was advised to relax and enjoy his pay until the contract’s expiration, after which they would negotiate. Despite initially believing this was an indication of disinterest due to his size, Mysterio was eventually signed to WWE after his WCW contract expired.
Mysterio also exhibited his faith in his son, Dominik Mysterio, becoming a future world champion, praising Dominik’s understanding of the craft and his potential. Later in the podcast, he reflected on his memorable Ladder Match with Eddie Guerrero at SummerSlam 2005, attributing the idea to Bruce Prichard and Eddie Guerrero.
