In 2009, AJ Lee, whose real name is April Mendez, kick-started her career in WWE by joining Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) and later NXT. She made her way to the primary roster by 2011.
The duration of her career on the main roster was filled with remarkable achievements. She managed to secure the Divas Championship on three separate occasions, establishing a record-breaking title reign that lasted an impressive 406 days. Lee decided to hang up her boots and retire from WWE due to health concerns in 2015.
The question of Lee’s potential return to WWE has been a frequent topic of conversation amongst fans for several years. WrestleVotes has recently revealed that the decision for her to return rests solely with Lee, as WWE would be more than willing to accommodate her.
The statement from WrestleVotes reads, “It is a question I get quite a bit. As far as I know, WWE is totally on board for it. They would welcome it. She picks up the phone and she says, ‘I’m in.’ They’re going to say, ‘Yes. What took so long?’ I would say the only two people that probably know that answer are AJ Lee and CM Punk and whatever that answer may be is up to them. So we’ll see.”
After parting ways with WWE, Lee explored other fields of interest. She worked on comic books, penned a biography released in 2017 and also contributed to the reboot of the WOW (Women Of Wrestling) promotion.
