The temporary expansion of WWE’s SmackDown to three hours has ignited considerable commentary. Many initially thought this would advantage lesser-utilized talents. However, internal reports have suggested a sense of discontent among WWE’s creative and production units. They feel the extended duration has led to a decrease in show quality rather than enhancing the narrative. Similar qualms surfaced when RAW made a shift to three hours in 2012, often causing problems with the pacing and leading to the inclusion of unnecessary content.
According to a report by WrestleVotes, the expansion is not a long-term plan. WWE reportedly intends to revert SmackDown back to its two-hour structure in the region of June, post the WrestleMania 41 event.
