Tony Khan feels that unveiling the backstage squabble involving Jack Perry and CM Punk substantially contributed to AEW’s contract procurement with Warner Bros. Discovery.
The controversial clip was showcased during the April 10th episode of Dynamite, subsequent to Punk’s contentious remarks made on “The MMA Hour” podcast.
Many people reproached AEW’s decision to broadcast this footage, arguing that it portrayed Khan as unable to let go of the fight and that it provided a distasteful attempt to boost ratings.
In a recent discussion on Wrestling Observer Radio, it was revealed that Khan insists the decision to air the incident played a “major” role in securing AEW’s partnership with WBD.
It’s noteworthy that despite facing backlash from fans and people involved in wrestling, Khan hasn’t indicated any regret over his decision to air the fight.
The newly minted deal with WBD, allegedly worth 5 million annually, is to ensure the preservation of AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision programs.
