AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery have been in talks with regard to the extension of the existing television deal.
Fightful Select is reporting that sources suggest they’re of the personal belief that an announcement could be made of a new deal as early as this summer or fall.
Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly “very happy” with AEW, particularly noting how Tony Khan’s company has shown flexibility in terms of adding and removing shows, providing different kinds of content, and working with preemptions and bumps to other networks when needed.
Warner Bros. Discovery is said to have input and influence in terms of AEW’s programming, which has been evident in crossover promotion and talents being featured or not.
AEW has also been very adaptable about overruns and other WBD requests. One of the key provisions of AEW programming is that it would be exclusive to Warner Bros. Discovery, and that is what led to the termination of AEW Dark and AEW Dark: Elevation on YouTube.
WBD reportedly hasn’t had much interest in Ring of Honor since the days of Sinclair owning the promotion, and it’s unclear whether that has changed.
In addition, the broadcast of AEW All In 2023 has been “actively discussed” as part of the television rights extension talks. The source from WBD stated that the deal would be a “huge money increase for AEW, by the way things are looking now.”
