Recent Furloughs & Cuts Is WWE Being ‘Overly Cautious’ Says Vince McMahon

It’s only been a little over a week since WWE’s biggest cuts to its talent roster in years, and many fans are still settling into things. While many of the affected talents open up independent shirt shops and spill the beans on their careers in Stamford, many point to WWE’s financials and ask why these changes had to be made.
When asked about the situation in the company’s most recent quarterly earnings call, Vince McMahon said that he was thinking about the future. “Again, we have no debt. We’re not looking to buy some crazy something, we’re just making certain that we are being conservative… maybe overly cautious.”
While WWE’s conservative moves may be cold comfort to the talents now out to fend for themselves amidst a global pandemic, it was, as WWE would say themselves, “best for business.” WWE seems hellbent on continuing in some form throughout these uncertain times, and this may not be the last time that we see some unorthodox moves out of Stamford to make that a reality.
