WWE Hall of Famer Diamond Dallas Page (DDP) was in attendance at last weekend’s AEW Revolution 2024 pay-per-view event to support Sting in the final match of his legendary career.

On a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, DDP weighed in on not appearing on camera at AEW Revolution 2024.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On not appearing on camera at AEW Revolution: “He’s one of the most recognizable names at the tippy-top of the list and a good friend of mine. I didn’t want to be on-camera and all of that, because I got a good relationship with WWE now (…) so I didn’t want to do that, but I wanted to be there for Sting.”

On how a match he had with Sting in January 1996 helped alter the course of his career: “It was 1996, January 24 and I’m with him in a match on “Nitro.” I walk in the locker room and he’s like ‘What do you want to do?’ And you’ll see right away, I have him go for the Scorpion Deathlock and I get to the ropes.”

On Sting’s retirement: “I was happy he retired too, because you keep doing it as you go and you pay the price later.”

WWE Hall of Famer Diamond Dallas Page (DDP) made a special appearance at the recent AEW Revolution 2024 pay-per-view event to support his good friend Sting in what was believed to be the final match of Sting’s legendary career. However, DDP chose not to appear on camera during the event due to his current relationship with WWE.

During a recent episode of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, DDP discussed his decision to stay off-camera at AEW Revolution 2024. He explained that while he wanted to be there for Sting, he didn’t want to jeopardize his good relationship with WWE. As one of the most recognizable names in professional wrestling, DDP felt it was important to maintain a positive rapport with both promotions.

DDP also reflected on a significant match he had with Sting back in January 1996, which played a crucial role in altering the course of his own career. He recalled the moment when he walked into the locker room and Sting asked him what he wanted to do in their match. DDP immediately suggested that Sting attempt his signature move, the Scorpion Deathlock, and DDP would manage to escape by reaching the ropes. This match showcased DDP’s resilience and skill, ultimately propelling him to greater success in the wrestling world.

When discussing Sting’s retirement, DDP expressed his happiness for his friend’s decision. He emphasized the toll that professional wrestling takes on the body over time and acknowledged that continuing to perform in the ring can lead to long-term consequences. By retiring at the right time, Sting can prioritize his health and well-being.

DDP’s presence at AEW Revolution 2024 not only demonstrated his support for Sting but also highlighted the camaraderie and respect shared among wrestlers across different promotions. Despite his decision to stay off-camera, DDP’s attendance spoke volumes about the bond between these two wrestling icons.

As fans eagerly await the next chapter in Sting’s journey, it is clear that his retirement marks the end of an era. With the support of friends like DDP, Sting can now focus on his legacy and enjoy a well-deserved break from the demanding world of professional wrestling.
