“I have epilepsy and my doctor is not trying to clear me to wrestle. My doctor. Of course, they were like, ‘we need a clearance letter.’ My doctor was like, ‘No.’”

She continued, “I’m in the process of finding another doctor to get a second opinion. I haven’t had a seizure in over six years. Been off medication for four, been wrestling for almost four years, haven’t had any issues. I don’t know why they won’t work with me. Waiting on a second opinion. Then, I should be right back up at the top where I belong.”

HollyHood Haley J, an OVW wrestler, recently revealed that she had to pull out of her scheduled WWE tryout due to her epilepsy. Despite not experiencing any seizures in over six years and being off medication for four years, her doctor refused to clear her for wrestling.

In a recent interview on the “Cafe De Rene” podcast, Haley J explained that she is currently seeking a second opinion from another doctor. She expressed her frustration with the situation, stating that she has been wrestling for almost four years without any issues and doesn’t understand why the WWE won’t work with her.

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures. It affects approximately 50 million people worldwide, making it one of the most common neurological conditions globally. Seizures can vary in intensity and duration, and they are caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain.

While epilepsy can be managed with medication and other treatments, individuals with the condition may face certain limitations in certain activities, including contact sports like professional wrestling. This is because the risk of injury during a seizure can be high, both for the person with epilepsy and those around them.

In the case of Haley J, her doctor’s refusal to clear her for wrestling is likely based on concerns about the potential risks involved. The WWE, like any other professional sports organization, has a responsibility to prioritize the health and safety of its athletes. They require clearance letters from doctors to ensure that participants are physically fit to compete.

It is understandable that Haley J is seeking a second opinion to explore other options. Second opinions can provide valuable insights and alternative perspectives on medical conditions and treatment plans. It is important for individuals with epilepsy or any other medical condition to work closely with their healthcare team to find the best approach for their specific situation.

Haley J’s story sheds light on the challenges faced by individuals with epilepsy who aspire to participate in contact sports or physically demanding activities. While it can be disappointing to face restrictions due to medical conditions, it is crucial to prioritize health and safety above all else.

As fans of professional wrestling, it is important to support and advocate for inclusivity and understanding when it comes to individuals with medical conditions. By raising awareness and promoting dialogue, we can contribute to a more inclusive and supportive environment for all athletes, regardless of their health conditions.
