R-Truth recently appeared on Sam Roberts’ podcast, Notsam Wrestling. The former WWE 24/7 Champion discussed various topics, including the championship, how much Vince McMahon is involved with his character and more. Here are some highlights.
On making the most of the WWE 24/7 Championship:
R-Truth: “Man, this title ain’t nothing but what you make it. Me and my colleagues have made the best of it, man, we took the s******* and made lemonade out of it. When Mick Foley pulled it out of the bag, man, they said it was so ugly…. But now everybody loves it, man. Everybody wants to hold it.”
On who taught him the most about the entertainment aspect of sports entertainment:
R-Truth: “Two people, I person I studied and the other one kind of taught and pretty much guided me into it. I watched the Rock and Vince McMahon. Vince, he is a godfather of sports entertainment. He would talk to me, I would do promos, I would do interviews and do things and Vince was like, ‘That’s not R-Truth. Who the hell was that? You’re entertaining. You can speak and be entertaining. You can go in the ring and be entertaining. You can just be around people and be entertaining, man.'”
On Vince McMahon’s involvement with his character:
R-Truth: “No pressure at all. Appreciation. The last two, three years, I’ve came into the character, like I put that suit on. I know who this character is, I can make you laugh…I can do what I want to do now and I know it works. When I’m getting ready to do something, whether it’s speak or go out or whatever, I hear Vince in the back of my head. ‘Alright, you need to be yourself, you need to be R-Truth. R-Truth wouldn’t do that, he wouldn’t say that, he wouldn’t act that way. You’re acting sad, R-Truth doesn’t need sympathy from nobody.’ Vince has told me who this character is and I know what he expects. It’s no pressure, I’m appreciative to know what he expects and what he wants.”
