As one of the most prominent trainers in All Elite Wrestling, QT Marshall is responsible for setting up newcomers for success. The pressure to do so was higher than ever ahead of the buzzworthy clash that pit Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet against basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal and Jade Cargill.

The bout unforgettably featured “Shaq” crashing through two tables which was an eye-opening spot considering O’Neal’s status as a non-wrestler.

In an interview with Stephanie Chase of Digital Spy, Marshall reflected on his experience training Shaq and explained that the former Lakers star picked up on wrestling very quickly.

“He picked up on it very quickly,” said Marshall. “He’s a wrestling fan, so the moment that you asked him what he wanted to do, he already had a whole list of things that were in his mind that he was going to do to somebody and it was just about teaching him the right way to do it without hurting himself.”

As for the table spot, Marshall admitted that he had to bend the truth to make sure Shaq went through with it.

“He said something about maybe going through some tables and I told him, ‘Oh it won’t be that bad, we’ll put a really thick pad underneath,’ which was not true,” said Marshall. “I just didn’t want him to back out of it.

“So it was a lot of fun, as soon as he came in the back, right away, he said, ‘You lied to me! There was no pad under there!’ That’s wrestling, welcome to wrestling.”

Shaq hasn’t returned to the ring since this unforgettable match, but he has expressed his desire to come back at some point.
