On a recent edition of his “Tuesday with The Taskmaster” podcast, former AAA booker Kevin Sullivan speculated about the potential headliner matches for WrestleMania 40, assuming Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson doesn’t compete.

According to the former booker, CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns are the likely frontrunners to main event WrestleMania 40.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On the primary bouts for WrestleMania 40: “I think you’re gonna end up seeing Cody and Roman as the main event, and I like the idea of ‘Freakin Rollins against Punk for Night 1. I think they’ve already started telling the story for [Punk versus Rollins] by holding them back, giving each other the finger, causing sh*t backstage … I think that will be it.”

On the dynamics behind a Punk/Rollins match: “He left with some stink on him. Rollins is going to pick on that, and that may be the angle of the main event. But if Punk’s put in there with anybody else, I think he’d get some heat on himself. Even as great as he is, it’s like when Cody didn’t win at WrestleMania [38], people were really mad. But when he wins, the pop is going to be so much bigger.”

On the current WWE roster: “Everybody talks about the Attitude Era, but have they ever had a lineup like this in WWE? Ever?. It’s crazy. I’m not gonna say it’s only him, but Hunter has done an amazing job.”

On Triple H learning from Vince McMahon: “Hunter learned from Vince many years ago that business is business, and they’re really [different]. I’ve never seen a company [as hot as current WWE]. WCW was a very slow slide. Tony Khan was the new guy on the block, AEW had all the hype on social media … it’s like it’s non-existent.”

Speculation is already underway for the potential headliner matches at WrestleMania 40, and former AAA booker Kevin Sullivan has weighed in on the conversation. In a recent episode of his podcast, “Tuesday with The Taskmaster,” Sullivan discussed the likely frontrunners for the main event if Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson doesn’t compete.

According to Sullivan, the primary bouts for WrestleMania 40 could feature CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns. He believes that these matches have the potential to be the main events of the grandest stage of them all.

Sullivan also touched on the dynamics behind a potential Punk/Rollins match. He mentioned that Rollins could use Punk’s departure from WWE with some “stink” on him as an angle for the main event. However, Sullivan also acknowledged Punk’s ability to generate heat regardless of his opponent, highlighting the impact of Cody Rhodes not winning at WrestleMania 38 and the subsequent huge pop he would receive when he eventually wins.

The former booker also praised the current WWE roster, stating that it may be one of the best lineups in the history of the company. He credited Triple H, who has played a significant role in shaping the roster, for doing an amazing job. Sullivan compared the current state of WWE to WCW’s slow decline and emphasized the non-existent hype surrounding AEW despite Tony Khan being the new guy on the block.

As fans eagerly await WrestleMania 40, these speculations provide an interesting glimpse into what could potentially be the marquee matches of the event. However, it’s important to note that these are just speculations and plans can change in the world of professional wrestling.
