Come August 8, 2024, PBS North Carolina will bring to screen the new documentary: ‘When Giants Walked Here,’ that captures the ebb and flow of Jim Crockett Promotions and pro wrestling’s journey at the celebrated Dorton Arena, Raleigh, NC. The documentary meticulously weaves the poignant narratives etched within the hallowed walls of the arena.
Legendary wrestling Giants, like Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, and Magnum T.A., etched their legacy into the walls of Dorton Arena. Generations of wrestling enthusiasts sought weekly excitement from Dorton’s unique venue, witnessing and shaping the future of professional wrestling.
The film making duo, director CLIFF BUMGARDNER, an award-winning filmmaker and bestselling author, and co-producer CHRIS LEA, a seasoned journalist, are available for discussing the research and production of the film, their creative process, and the bond formed through their collaboration.
Drawing on stories from the American South’s multilayered tapestry, BUMGARDNER, a 3-time Emmy Award winner, brings to life his first feature film. CHRIS LEA, a 20-year veteran in broadcasting and print journalism, and a former independent professional wrestler, utilizes his rich experience in the arena to provide insights.
