WWE hoped The Rock might’ve returned for a match versus Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, the business had to alter its strategies to Cody Rhodes challenging Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania rather.

The Rock supposedly informed the business that he didn’t feel he had adequate time to enter ring shape.

Paul Heyman was spoken with on Jimmy Traina’s SI Media podcast today. Throughout the podcast, he was inquired about The Rock refraining from doing the match. He stated,

” I never ever spoke with Dwayne about this year’s WrestleMania. I constantly heard his name being tossed around. I could not envision with his schedule, with his marketing schedule, with the launch of the XFL, with all the tasks that he has on his plate, that he would have the ability to put in the time to return into what we would call ring shape. Visually, does any person in Hollywood even compare it to him? No. Could he run a marathon? I do not understand. Perhaps. I’m sure he has excellent cardio, however cardio itself and cardio in the ring and remaining in ring shape are 2 totally various things. I’ve seen excellent combined martial arts fighters who would have no issue doing 15 rounds of sparring or 5 rounds in an MMA cage, enter into a wrestling ring and within 2 minutes of striking the ropes, they can capture their breath. It’s simply a various rhythm. It’s simply an entirely various physical toll that it takes. It’s not like riding a bike. It’s not something you can simply return into. It needs you to return into a particular level of conditioning that is special to the sports home entertainment world.”
