Roman Reigns will defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in a Fatal Four-Way match against Randy Orton, LA Knight, and AJ Styles at tonight’s 2024 WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event.
The Bloodline’s wise counsel, Paul Heyman, believes Reigns is the greatest of all time, and that the Tribal Chief’s legendary title reign speaks for itself.
Reigns has held the WWE Universal Championship for over 1,200 days and the WWE Title for 663 days.
On a recent edition of “The Pat McAfee Show,” Heyman explained how Roman’s historic title reigns cement his legacy as the all-time GOAT. He said,
“Because in the modern era, no one can hold the title this long. It’s impossible. The system is not designed for that to happen. The same way the system is not designed through the Major League Baseball draft, the NBA draft, the NHL draft, the NFL draft, for a real dynasty to take place anymore… The game is not designed for that anymore, nor is WWE. WWE doesn’t want a champion for four years straight. They just don’t; it’s too dominant.”
He continued, “Roman Reigns has bucked against the system and has maintained that level of dominance at the very top where no one else is even in his stratosphere.”
On a recent edition of his “Oh You Didn’t Know” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Brian “Road Dogg” James revealed that a match between Mustafa Ali and Bryan Danielson
(Daniel Bryan) was discussed for WWE WrestleMania 35.
The two former WWE Superstars feuded in December and January before WrestleMania 35, but the program was scrapped in favor of Kofi Kingston after Ali suffered an injury shortly before the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event.
Kingston went on to headline WrestleMania 35, where he beat Bryan to win the WWE Title.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On being a fan of Ali’s and Bryan being behind his push: “I loved [Ali]. I loved him from the get-go. We spoke about him earlier briefly, when him and his guy started putting together some vignettes and stuff, they were good and creative that we started utilizing them on the show. He’s a talented kid, man, and he’s a good-looking dude, and he can work his arse off. So what’s not to love about Ali? Look, Daniel had his say-so, and Daniel had his say-so in his creativity, for sure, but I never remember Daniel coming to me anyway. He may have come to another writer or something, but I feel like it was me and two other guys that made the calls. So we liked the dude from the get-go.”
On whether a match was talked about between Bryan and Ali: “Yeah, it was talked about. That’s probably what they’re referring, with Daniel Bryan talking about Ali and stuff. So yeah, there was talk about a storyline leading up to that.”
In tonight’s WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event, Roman Reigns will defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in a Fatal Four-Way match against Randy Orton, LA Knight, and AJ Styles. Reigns, who is backed by his wise counsel Paul Heyman, is considered by many to be the greatest of all time (GOAT) in the wrestling industry.
One of the main reasons for this belief is Reigns’ historic title reigns. He has held the WWE Universal Championship for over 1,200 days and the WWE Title for 663 days. Heyman recently appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” and explained how Roman’s lengthy title reigns solidify his legacy as the all-time GOAT.
Heyman pointed out that in the modern era, it is nearly impossible for anyone to hold a title for such a long duration. The system is not designed for that level of dominance. Similar to other sports drafts like Major League Baseball, NBA, NHL, and NFL, the WWE system does not favor a single champion reigning for four years straight. However, Reigns has defied the odds and maintained his dominance at the top of the wrestling world.
According to Heyman, Reigns has achieved a level of dominance that no one else can even come close to. He has surpassed all expectations and proven himself to be in a league of his own. Heyman’s comments highlight the remarkable feat that Reigns has accomplished and why he is considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
In another interesting tidbit, WWE Hall of Famer Brian “Road Dogg” James revealed on his podcast that a match between Mustafa Ali and Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan) was discussed for WWE WrestleMania 35. The two former WWE Superstars had a feud in December and January leading up to WrestleMania 35. However, the program was ultimately scrapped due to Ali’s injury shortly before the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event.
Instead, Kofi Kingston was given the opportunity to headline WrestleMania 35 and went on to defeat Bryan for the WWE Title. James expressed his admiration for Ali and revealed that he was a fan of his from the beginning. He also mentioned that Bryan had some influence in pushing for Ali’s storyline, but ultimately, the decision-making process involved James and a few other writers.
While the Ali vs. Danielson match did not come to fruition, it is interesting to hear about the discussions that took place behind the scenes. It shows the creative possibilities that WWE explores when planning their biggest annual event, WrestleMania.
In conclusion, Roman Reigns’ upcoming title defense at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event further solidifies his status as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. His historic title reigns and ability to defy the odds have set him apart from his peers. Additionally, the behind-the-scenes discussions about potential matches like Ali vs. Danielson at WrestleMania 35 shed light on the creative process within WWE.
