During a recent episode of his podcast, “The Pat McAfee Show,” WWE broadcaster and former NFL athlete Pat McAfee declared that he would be making a return to ESPN’s College Gameday on August 24th.

Although McAfee has not spoken in detail about his future with WWE, it is widely speculated that he will take a break from his commentary role on RAW. This would mirror his earlier move when he hosted Gameday and paused his responsibilities on SmackDown.

In his candid announcement, McAfee expressed, “When my contract came up, after living a dream alongside that crew that is just as talented off camera as they are on camera, I thought long and hard. ‘Am I the right person to be doing this incredible gig? There are millions and millions of people that would love to be sitting in my seat. Am I the right guy for it? Is this what I want to do?’ The only thing that I kept coming back to is, ‘Hell fucking yeah.’ I’m lucky, I’m honored, I’m humbled. I’m grateful, and I’m back.”

Further elaborating on his return, McAfee acknowledged, “I am returning to College GameDay and although I don’t want to make a big deal out of it, I know it’s a big fucking deal. I was a free agent and it was a real moment of self-reflection asking, ‘Am I the right person for this job?’”

Despite the controversy surrounding his performance as part of College Gameday, McAfee emphasized his love for the show and significant role it has in sports media. He added, “Do I want to sign up to get criticism about how terrible of a person I am by people who will never understand the kind of person I am? Is that what I want to sign up for? In the end, I still get the opportunity to do this. I need to do this. I’m excited to be there.”
