In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer notes that WWE has discussed having The Rock return and win a Royal Rumble match in the past.

“The idea of Rock as a surprise Rumble entrant coming in late and winning was discussed for past years when there was an idea of him headlining Mania. So while nobody has advertised it and it probably wouldn’t happen, I wouldn’t reject it as a possibility. Obviously this is completely up to Dwayne Johnson. The usual protocol is that one world title challenger would win at the Rumble and the other at Elimination Chamber.”

The Rock won the 2000 Royal Rumble match in controversial fashion, as he had technically already been eliminated when he threw out the Big Show to win.

After losing his spot at WrestleMania to the Big Show, The Rock would be re-added to the main event by Vince McMahon but would fail to capture the WWF Championship.

The Rock’s Potential Return and Royal Rumble Win: A Possibility?

The Royal Rumble is one of the most anticipated events in the world of professional wrestling. It is a match that features 30 participants, with the winner earning a championship opportunity at WrestleMania. Over the years, we have seen some incredible moments and surprise entrants in the Royal Rumble match. And now, there is speculation about the possibility of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson returning and winning the match.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that WWE has discussed the idea of The Rock returning and winning a Royal Rumble match in the past. This idea was considered when there was a plan for The Rock to headline WrestleMania. While it is not currently advertised and may not happen, Meltzer suggests that it cannot be completely ruled out as a possibility. Ultimately, the decision lies with Dwayne Johnson himself.

The Rock has a history with the Royal Rumble match. He famously won the 2000 Royal Rumble in controversial fashion. Despite being technically eliminated, he managed to eliminate the Big Show and secure the victory. However, his road to WrestleMania was not smooth sailing. The Big Show took his spot at WrestleMania, but The Rock was later re-added to the main event by Vince McMahon. Unfortunately, he failed to capture the WWF Championship.

If The Rock were to return and win the Royal Rumble match, it would undoubtedly create a buzz among wrestling fans. The idea of him challenging Roman Reigns for the championship at WrestleMania is intriguing. Both men have a history together, having faced each other at WrestleMania 31 in 2015. A rematch between them on the grandest stage of them all would be a marquee attraction.

However, it is important to note that WWE typically follows a protocol when it comes to their world title challengers. One challenger wins at the Royal Rumble, while the other wins at the Elimination Chamber. This ensures that both champions have a credible opponent for WrestleMania. So, if The Rock were to win the Royal Rumble, it would be interesting to see who would win the Elimination Chamber match to challenge the other champion.

While fans eagerly await any news or announcements regarding The Rock’s potential return and Royal Rumble win, it is important to remember that nothing is set in stone. WWE often keeps surprises under wraps to maintain the element of surprise for their audience. So, until an official announcement is made, it remains speculation and a topic of discussion among wrestling enthusiasts.
