Welcome to another edition of the eWrestlingNews Question of the Day! Today, we’re commemorating the 13th anniversary of the WWE Capitol Punishment pay-per-view, which was held at the iconic Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

Notwithstanding the clear political connotations (see the Hulk Hogan speech at the Republican National Convention), we’re going to focus our discussion on one unchanging force in the wrestling world: R-Truth. Known for his seemingly ageless energy and often prominent features on shows, R-Truth remains a cherished WWE superstar. During the Capitol Punishment event, he had a perfect opportunity to clinch a world title when he squared off against John Cena in the main event.

But that brings us to today’s question: “Should R-Truth, at any point in his career, have a world title reign?” Let me know what you think in the comments section.

Now, for my two cents…

Absolutely, R-Truth is fantastic. He’s consistently proven himself to be a surefire candidate for the WWE Hall of Fame once he retires. I support his greatness and numerous achievements, but I’m hesitant to endorse him for this one.

There’s always been an interesting debate about who among earlier generations would have bagged a world title had there been more than one available, like today. I often find myself defending greats like Razor Ramon, Ted DiBiase, Roddy Piper, British Bulldog, Owen Hart, and Mr. Perfect. Yet, R-Truth, who has participated in eras with two world titles, hasn’t hit that same mark like Mark Henry, Jinder Mahal, and Great Khali have.

R-Truth’s strength lies in his comedic flair. Santino Marella too shares this merit, yet he’s not a former WWE world champion. To see R-Truth transformed into a serious character for the sake of winning the world title would, paradoxically, take away the charm that is uniquely R-Truth.

Don’t get me wrong. R-Truth has his place in wrestling’s rich history. Just like William Regal and Goldust, he doesn’t need a world title to validate his impact or importance in the realm of wrestling.

He may never quite hit the benchmark to justify a world title shot, but I would certainly entertain the idea of him as an NXT Champion. This may sound more humorous than serious, but imagine R-Truth nabbing the MITB and cashing it on the developmental brand’s title because he deems it as his chance to be “the future of this business”.

As we tackle more serious considerations for world champion, let’s remember – there will always be another wrestler vying for the title, but there will never be another R-Truth.
