Original Plans For Mercedes Mone At NJPW Resurgence Before She Suffered Injury

As previously reported late Sunday night, Mercedes Mone suffered an injury in the main event of NJPW Resurgence while she was wrestling Willow Nightingale. 

The match that was supposed to crown the first-ever NJPW Strong Women’s Champion saw Willow go over to win the title. Mone suffered the injury when she went for a code red off the top rope and slipped.

Pwinsider and Bryan Alvarez report that the word going around is that Mone suffered a broken ankle. 

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Mone was supposed to win the title, but the decision to put the title on Willow was made on the fly due to the injury.
